The Killers' 'Mr. Brightside' Makes History: Overtakes Oasis' 'Wonderwall' in UK Singles Record

In a monumental milestone for music, The Killers' iconic anthem 'Mr. Brightside' has surpassed Oasis' 'Wonderwall' to claim the title of the UK's biggest single of all time yet to reach Number One.

Released as part of their debut album 'Hot Fuss' two decades ago, 'Mr. Brightside' became an indispensable part of British culture, despite peaking at Number 10 on the charts. Fast forward to 2024, it now holds the record for the longest-running Top 100 hit in Official Chart history.

With UK sales and streams totaling 5.57 million, including over 1 million sales and 530.34 million streams, the song stands as a testament to its enduring popularity. Notably, it has spent a staggering 408 weeks in the Official Singles Chart Top 100, making it the song with the most weeks on chart in UK history.

Celebrating this achievement, The Killers expressed gratitude to their fans and acknowledged the song's significant impact on British culture. Martin Talbot, Chief Executive of the Official Charts, hailed 'Mr. Brightside' as an alternative national anthem, recognizing its timeless appeal.

As The Killers gear up for festival appearances and a UK headline tour later this year, including a residency in Las Vegas, the legacy of 'Mr. Brightside' continues to shine bright, marking a milestone in music history that will resonate for generations to come.
